Happy Valentine’s Day!
After years of living with the cows I am always aware of their very loving, kind, and wholistic nature. A daily feature of a cow’s life is to lick each other … I guess one could
say groom one another. This happens more between mother and calf, and then family members, but I have become increasing aware that they do it throughout the herd, even to
those I had thought were not particularly close. When one lives amongst the cows as I do, one feels surrounded by a peaceful ocean of silence. They are deeply settled in
themselves and at the same time aware of the whole environment around them.
The subtle ways they communicate with each other and those who care for them is very profound. Sometimes a feeling comes, without a reason, to go to the cows and then a
situation is found where they need my help or they wish to help me! One day some of the cows kept getting out and after the second time of bringing them back to pasture the
eldest cow silently called me to come over to where she sat on a little hill. Sitting next to her, and looking where she was looking, I saw a hidden area and watched the cows once
again sneaking out. Perhaps in many ways cows are really taking care of us if we allow them to be themselves in a safe and loving place.
With the loving appreciation we have for our friends, family and communities may our world soon rise to be a nourishing place for all.
